Description

During this crossing of 4 days and 3 nights in Belledonne we will be accommodated with half board, in dormitories, in 2 mountain refuges which will provide us with lunch picnics.

Chamrousse will be our point of departure and arrival.

These 4 days of hiking will be an opportunity to take different routes each day and to appreciate this mountain full of contrasts which is still little frequented. At the foot of impressive sharp peaks, between a string of glacial lakes, stretch green streams.

With your guide, passionate about birds, edible plants and geology, you will take the time to observe the flora and wild fauna. The grandiose panoramas of the Vercors and the Chartreuse will be the daily setting for our picnics.

In the evening, after the mountain meal and possibly some local "homemade" sweets, we will enjoy the starry nights from the terrace of the refuge.

If the weather is favourable, we will climb the highest summit of the chain accessible by hiking: the Croix de Belledonne, at almost 3000m.

During this stay you only carry your daily belongings: clothes, picnic of the day, water and a silk sheet for the refuge.

For the night, blankets are provided by the refuge.

Program

1st day - about 5 hours of walking - D+ 900m and D- 500m

Welcome at 9.30 am at the center of the Olympic resort of Chamrousse to get to know each other.

We will then quickly take the direction of the mountains through little frequented forest paths, will cross the mountain pasture then the mythical forest of cembro pines of Chamrousse and the lake of Pourettes.

Our route will take us through the steep slopes of Belledonne among which we will try to find chamois, ibexes or mouflons.

At the end of the day, the Pra refuge will welcome us in its green setting where a large flock of sheep grazes.

2nd day - about 5 hours of walking - D+ 800m and D- 1100m

Leaving the refuge we quickly gain altitude and the landscape becomes more and more mineral. If the weather permits, we continue the hike by climbing the Croix de Belledonne at almost 2926m. Going down to the refuge we discover the glacial turquoise blue waters of Lac Blanc, at the foot of the wall of the Grand Pic de Belledonne.

Overnight at the Jean Collet refuge, set on a promontory facing the limestone massifs of Chartreuse and Vercors.

3rd day - 4h30 of walking approximately - D+ 800m and D- 1000m

We will direct our steps towards the iron mine pass to reach the blueberry moors of the eastern slope of the Belledonne range. The view extends over the immensity of the Ecrins, perhaps we will have the chance to see vultures that crisscross the massif.

This wild side is little frequented, except by the herds that come to find their summer pasture there.

Overnight at Habert d'Aiguebelle nestled in the heart of a mountain cirque.

4th day - about 4 hours of walking - D+ 750m and D- 1150m

The day will begin by climbing up to the Cîme de la Jasse, the last summit of our tour. We will follow the large green valley which brings us to a panoramic summit. From there we can retrace the route of our roaming and imagine our next adventures while admiring the northern part of the Belledonne massif.

We will then go down to the village of Prapoutel in the Sept-Laux resort, then it will be the return to Grenoble or Chamrousse.
